'Stay Cool' Producers Say Distributor Stole Film Profits

By Stewart Bishop (September 23, 2011, 3:12 PM EDT) -- The producers of "The Smell of Success" and "Stay Cool" sued distributor American Cinema International Inc. on Wednesday, accusing the company of cheating the producers out of profits from the films and attempting to cover up their deception.

Initiate Productions LLC told a California court it had entered into an agreement with ACI in late 2009 to distribute both films to foreign markets. ACI was responsible for negotiating licensing agreements with foreign distributors for the films and then collecting the revenues for Initiate after deducting its fees, the suit says.
