Landfill Co. Crushed Rivals With Bribe Scheme: Suit

Law360, New York (September 26, 2011, 6:29 PM EDT) -- A Louisiana landfill owner alleged in a $50 million lawsuit Friday that a rival company already facing a criminal investigation tried to smother its competitors’ business by bribing public officials, abusing the judicial process and scheming to rig contract bids following Hurricane Katrina.

Waste Management of Louisiana LLC claims River Birch Inc. engaged in a concerted effort after the August 2005 storm to steal business from its competitors and monopolize the landfill disposal market in the New Orleans metro area.
