Sprint Asks High Court To Hear Termination Fee Fight

Law360, New York (September 28, 2011, 4:39 PM EDT) -- A unit of Sprint Nextel Corp. asked the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this month to review a California appeals court's decision invalidating fees Sprint charged a class of consumers for early termination of contracts, saying federal law preempted the plaintiffs' claims.

Sprint Spectrum LP is challenging a California appeals court's affirmation of a trial court's decision, which held that the fees Sprint charged customers for breaking cellphone contracts were improper liquidated damages under state law.
