Safeco Can't Nix LA's Claims In $30M Water Main Suit

Law360, New York (September 26, 2011, 8:02 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Monday largely denied Safeco Insurance Co.'s bid to dismiss counterclaims filed by the city of Los Angeles in a fight over a terminated $29.9 million contract to build a water main.

U.S. District Judge Robert G. Klausner found that the L.A. Department of Water and Power had sufficiently pleaded its counterclaims of breach of contract, violations of the California False Claims Act and contractual indemnity. He also, however, struck part of the city's CFCA claim for not being specific enough....
