Karaoke Cos. Can’t Dance Out Of Sony Copyright Claims

Law360, New York (September 27, 2011, 1:05 PM EDT) -- A Tennessee federal judge on Monday refused to dismiss Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC's claims that JS Karaoke LLC and BottomLineSources.com Inc. sold unlicensed karaoke recordings of six songs for which the music publisher did not register copyrights until after filing suit.

Noting that Sony planned to refile its claims over the songs as a separate suit that would likely end up consolidated into the present litigation, U.S. District Judge John T. Nixon denied the defendants' motion to dismiss because a dismissal would merely “prolong the inevitable...
