DOD Lagging On Closing Iraq, Afghanistan Contracts: GAO

Law360, Chicago (September 28, 2011, 5:24 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office said Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Defense's poor internal controls had left it far behind schedule on closing out its contingency contracts in Iraq, a problem likely to continue in Afghanistan.

In a report to Congress, the GAO said that "relatively few" of the DOD's Iraq contracts will be closed within their required time frames, a step the reviewing agency said is key to ensuring that the government receives its goods and services at the price it bargained for. Closing...
