FBI Botched Sting Operation, Gabon FCPA Defendants Say

By Christopher Norton (September 28, 2011, 9:07 PM EDT) -- The trial of six military equipment industry executives accused of bribing Gabonese officials to win contracts kicked off Wednesday with defense attorneys telling a Washington jury that the FBI and its cooperator bungled an underlying sting operation.

Prosecutors allege that John Mushriqi, Jeana Mushriqi, R. Patrick Caldwell, Stephen Giordanella, John Godsey and Marc Morales tried to bribe Gabonese officials to win contracts to provide armor, weapons and military gear, in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
