Apple Can't Halt Motorola IP Fight Despite Google Deal

Law360, New York (September 30, 2011, 3:14 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal court on Wednesday refused to stay Motorola Mobility Inc.'s patent fight against Apple Inc. over wireless and smartphone technology, denying Apple's bid to delay the litigation in light of Google Inc.'s proposed $12.5 billion takeover of Motorola.

In a brief ruling, U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro denied Apple's motion for a stay, but did not explain the decision to reject Apple's arguments that the Google deal would cause a fundamental loss of Motorola's patent rights.
