DOJ Gets Special Master In AT&T Merger Fight

Law360, New York (October 6, 2011, 6:33 PM EDT) -- A federal judge Friday approved a U.S. Department of Justice request for a special master to handle discovery disputes in its accelerated lawsuit seeking to block AT&T Inc.'s $39 billion bid to acquire T-Mobile USA Inc.

U.S. District Judge Ellen Huvelle agreed Friday to appoint retired judge Richard A. Levie as special master in the case, giving him the power to consider discovery disputes including claims of privilege, motions to compel, motions for protective order, scheduling, e-discovery and expert discovery, among other issues.
