Disney Faces Software IP Suit Over Hit Animated Films

Law360, New York (October 7, 2011, 8:44 PM EDT) -- A software designer sued the Walt Disney Co. on Oct. 3 in California, accusing the entertainment giant of infringing his patented technology in the production of the studio’s blockbuster animated films such as “Monsters Inc.” and “Tangled.”

Joseph Alter, a developer of computer graphic animation software, alleged Disney infringed his patent in almost every animated film the studio has made since it released Monsters Inc. in 2001. Alter also claims Disney’s plans to market its software system will further infringe the patent.
