Twitter Strikes Deal With App Maker In 'Tweet' Mark Fight

Law360, New York (October 11, 2011, 3:38 PM EDT) -- Social media giant Twitter Inc. announced Tuesday it had reached a settlement with one of its third-party application developers in a trademark infringement suit over Twitter’s signature word “tweet.”

In the suit, filed in California federal court, Twitter claimed Twittad LLC’s trademarked phrase “Let Your Ad Meet Tweets” was blocking its own registration of the “tweet” mark, and asked a court to nix Twittad’s mark.

Twitter spokeswoman Lynn Fox told Law360 that the two sides had resolved their dispute amicably.
