Fraud Class Action Aims at Jackson Hewitt

Law360, New York (June 25, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Jackson Hewitt, already in the crosshairs of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service for allegedly fraudulent behavior, now faces the prospect of a class action alleging that the tax-preparation company defrauded consumers.

The putative class action, filed Friday, accuses Jackson Hewitt of making a policy of violating its “gold guarantee.” The gold guarantee stipulates that Jackson Hewitt will assume any costs or penalties incurred because of inaccurate or erroneous tax filings in exchange for an additional fee, according to a press release...
