US, Afghan Firms Agree To Arbitrate Contracting Fight

Law360, New York (October 13, 2011, 7:31 PM EDT) -- Afghanistan-based subcontractor Shams Group International agreed Thursday in Michigan to arbitrate a dispute with a U.S.-based contractor that accused it of quitting work on an Afghan base, squatting on the base, and assaulting and threatening to kidnap the contractor's employees.

U.S. District Judge Lawrence P. Zatkoff signed off on the agreement and dismissed the complaint lodged on Aug. 15 by Michigan-based Lakeshore Engineering Services Inc., which asked the court to order Shams into arbitration with the American Arbitration Association.
