Nina Simone's Ex Not Entitled To Royalties: Judge

Law360, New York (October 14, 2011, 2:17 PM EDT) -- A New York judge said Thursday that the former husband of jazz singer Nina Simone could not recover royalty payments from the musician's former attorney, as he had failed to demonstrate that the lawyer had received any money in the first place.

In an Oct. 5 ruling that was filed Thursday, Judge Melvin L. Schweitzer said Steven Ames Brown, a California attorney who represented Simone from 1988 until her death in 2003, had demonstrated that proceeds from Simone's recordings had gone straight to a royalties management...
