Ametek Acquires Privately Held Eye Care Co. For $150M

Law360, New York (October 17, 2011, 4:41 PM EDT) -- Electronic equipment maker Ametek Inc. said Monday it had purchased Reichert Technologies from private equity firm Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Co. for $150 million, allowing it to enter the eye care device market.

The deal also bolsters Pennsylvania-based Ametek's current position in the medical market, its CEO Frank Hermance said in a statement Monday. He noted that Reichert invented the industry-standard Phoroptor used to diagnose vision problems, and that it was also an industry leader in making instruments used for glaucoma screening.
