Pentagon Seeks Ways To Improve Arms Export Contracts

Law360, New York (October 20, 2011, 7:35 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday asked the defense industry for suggestions on improving contracts for selling weapons and technology to foreign governments, following an internal report that detailed shortcomings in its Foreign Military Sales program.

The U.S. currently assists 117 countries with security efforts, sometimes selling or providing military equipment. But a risk-averse and plodding bureaucracy hampers the military's ability to quickly and proactively deliver needed aid, according to a July report by the DOD's Security Cooperation Reform Task Force.
