Sony Bilked Grammy Winner Out Of $1.6M: Suit

Law360, New York (October 24, 2011, 6:23 PM EDT) -- A Grammy-winning songwriter for Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige accused Sony/ATV Tunes LLC on Friday of withholding more than $1.6 million in royalties and advances in violation of his contract with the music publisher.

Johnta Austin and his company sued Sony in New York federal court, claiming that even though his work had hit certain royalty thresholds specified under his $7 million contract, the company had refused to pay a $1 million rollover advance and more than $600,000 in royalties.
