$700M Philip Morris Light Cigs Suit Ends In Mistrial

Law360, New York (October 25, 2011, 3:33 PM EDT) -- A Missouri jury failed to reach a verdict in a $700 million class action accusing Philip Morris USA Inc. of deceptively marketing its so-called light cigarettes, prompting the judge to declare a mistrial on Tuesday.

The decision comes more than 11 years after the plaintiffs filed their complaint in Missouri state court, one of many claiming the Altria Group Inc. subsidiary wrongly touted its Marlboro Lights as a less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes.
