Cellini, US Make Last Arguments In Blagojevich Fraud Case
Law360, Chicago (October 25, 2011, 11:06 PM EDT) -- Government prosecutors and the defense team for real estate investment businessman William Cellini sparred Tuesday over his alleged role in an extortion plot to benefit former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, making their final attempts to win the jury's favor in the case.
At closing arguments, defense lawyer Dan Webb of Winston & Strawn LLP told the jury that the government's wiretapped phone calls contained no proof to support the allegation that Cellini passed a message to a Hollywood producer in 2004 that his real estate investment firm would not receive a $220 million allocation from the Illinois teachers' pension fund unless...
