Texas Pol Escapes Hurricane Ike Bribery Case

Law360, New York (October 28, 2011, 4:43 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Thursday tossed a criminal case against an ex-Texas politician accused of helping to funnel Hurricane Ike cleanup contracts funded with federal emergency grant money to a friend, granting the government's motion to dismiss the case in the interests of justice.

Prosecutors gave no additional reason for dropping the case against former Liberty County precinct commissioner Herman “Lee” Groce. The U.S. Attorney's Office declined to comment Friday because Groce's two co-defendants in the case haven't been sentenced yet.
