Hospital Must Bargain With Nurses' Union: 9th Circ.

Law360, Los Angeles (October 31, 2011, 9:16 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Monday affirmed a district court's decision requiring the owners of a Los Angeles area community hospital to negotiate with the California Nurses Association, which represents the majority of registered nurses who were employed under the hospital's previous ownership.

A three-judge panel ruled that Avanti Health System LLC is a successor employer to Karykeion Inc., which sold the hospital to Avanti in March 2010, and must recognize the collective bargaining power of the nurses' union.
