Texas Ponzi Schemer Must Serve 17 Years, Pay $64M

Law360, New York (November 4, 2011, 6:45 PM EDT) -- A Texas man convicted of bilking investors out of more than $50 million was sentenced Friday to 17 years in federal prison and ordered to pay approximately $63.7 million, federal prosecutors announced.

Kurt Branham Barton, 44, was indicted in February on charges that he used his company, Triton Financial LLC, to improperly collect money from investors under false pretenses, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas said.
