AT&T Violates E-Pay Patent, Suit Claims

Law360, New York (November 7, 2011, 2:30 PM EST) -- An electronic payments processor on Friday launched a patent infringement suit against AT&T Corp. in Illinois, accusing the telecom giant and its affiliates of unlawfully leeching off a patented payment collection system through its Express Pay payment service.

Autoscribe Corp. claims that in taking electronic payments over the telephone, AT&T is co-opting the company's patented check-by-phone payment process, which is covered by U.S. Patent Number 7,117,171, titled “System and method for making a payment from a financial account.”
