Lilly Wins First Zyprexa Liability Trial

Law360, Los Angeles (November 4, 2011, 9:55 PM EDT) -- In the first such case to make it to a verdict after more than $1 billion in settlements, a California jury on Friday ruled in favor of Eli Lilly & Co. in a product liability lawsuit over the company’s $5 billion-a-year blockbuster antipsychotic drug Zyprexa.

The Los Angeles jury rejected claims that Lilly had caused the 2007 death of 20-year-old Cody Tadai by failing to adequately warn doctors about the drug’s possible side effects, causing Cody’s psychiatrist to misjudge the risk of prescribing him the drug....
