Rival Exchange Tries To Put CBOT/CME Merger On Ice

Law360, New York (July 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a last-ditch effort to thwart a merger between the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the IntercontinentalExchange Inc. resubmitted its proposal to acquire CBOT Holdings Inc. on Tuesday and gave the exchange until next week to accept.

Atlanta, Ga.-based ICE sent a signed merger agreement to CBOT's board of directors and asked them to sign and return it to ICE on July 12 if its stockholders and members reject CME's merger proposal. CBOT stockholders are scheduled to vote on the CME proposal...
