Chinese DVD Makers Target Patent Pool With Class-Action Suit

Law360 (January 19, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- A little-noticed lawsuit by Chinese DVD makers is seeking to break up an international patent-pool licensing group controlled by some of the world’s largest electronics makers.

The lawsuit targets the 3C DVD Patent Pool, a licensing group consisting of global electronics giants Sony Corporation, Philips Electronics, the Pioneer Corporation and LG Electronics, which has pooled several key patents for DVD technology.
