Artist's Bratz IP Case Against MGA Too Slim: Judge

Law360, New York (November 16, 2011, 8:59 PM EST) -- A federal judge on Wednesday tossed a copyright infringement suit lodged against MGA Entertainment Inc. by a New York artist who claimed an MGA toy designer stole the idea for the company's highly popular Bratz dolls from his sketches.

In granting MGA's summary judgment motion, U.S. District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin said no could find that the Bratz dolls designed by MGA employee Carter Bryant are substantially similar to the sketches created by Bernard Belair for a Steve Madden shoe advertisement.
