Lionsgate Hit With Trademark Suit Over '50/50' Film

Law360, New York (November 17, 2011, 10:14 PM EST) -- A Florida music company sued the makers of indie comedy "50/50," starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in Illinois federal court Thursday, claiming the film infringes its 50-50 and "Phifty-50" trademarks.

Eastland Music Group LLC filed the suit against Lionsgate Entertainment Inc., its film studio Mandate Pictures LLC, and the film's distributor Summit Entertainment LLC. It claims the "50/50" title is identical or highly similar to Eastland's record label and wholly owned subsidiary, Phifty-50 Records, which releases music by a hip-hop duo of the same name....
