FTC Sues To Block Illinois Hospital Merger

Law360, New York (November 18, 2011, 6:41 PM EST) -- Federal trade regulators on Friday moved to block a proposed merger between between two Illinois hospital systems, claiming the deal would stifle competition among hospitals and doctors in northern Illinois and lead to higher prices for patients and local businesses.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed an administrative complaint against Rockford, Ill.-based Rockford Health System and Peoria, Ill.-based OSF Healthcare System, as well as a parallel action in Illinois federal court seeking a preliminary injunction halting the merger pending the outcome of the administrative action....
