Capitol Records Sued For 'Alvin And The Chipmunks' Cash

Law360, New York (November 22, 2011, 3:00 PM EST) -- The owner of the rights to Alvin and the Chipmunks hit EMI’s Capitol Records with a suit on Friday accusing the Los Angeles-based record label of cheating it out of royalties from the furry cartoon singers.

Bagdasarian Productions LLC, a Montecito, Calif.-based company, brought the suit in California state court after Capitol had moved to get a similar federal court action thrown out for lack of subject-matter jurisdiction, according to the suit.

Bagdasarian agreed to dismiss the federal case without prejudice and brought the state action four days later, alleging that after an August 2010 audit it discovered that Capitol owed...
