GoDaddy Can View Academy's Legal Bills In IP Fight

Law360, Los Angeles (November 22, 2011, 10:12 PM EST) -- A California federal judge ruled Wednesday that GoDaddy.com Inc. can view billing statements between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP in a suit alleging the web hosting company infringes trademarks associated with the Academy Awards.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Carla Woehrle ruled that hundreds of pages of billing statements weren't protected under attorney-client privilege. The billing statements were necessary to prove the academy, which paid outside counsel to investigate and police the infringement claims, had standing to sue...
