Burberry Says NY Landlord Fraudulently Spiked Rent

Law360, New York (November 29, 2011, 1:34 PM EST) -- Fashion house Burberry Ltd. sued the landlord of one of its New York stores on Friday for allegedly using a minor problem with the building's sprinkler and fire alarm system to nearly double the retailer's $1.2 million annual rent and threaten eviction.

Burberry contends it fixed the sprinkler, which failed a fire department inspection in January, at the location in New York's Soho neighborhood, but that slow-moving city regulators held up its mandatory reinspection.
