Hyatt Says Patent Reform Act Should Kill Wide-Aiming Suit

Law360, New York (November 30, 2011, 1:50 PM EST) -- Hyatt Hotels Corp. asked a Texas federal judge Tuesday to throw out a patent suit brought by Variant Holdings LLC against the hotel chain and dozens of other companies, arguing the multidefendant suit should be killed in light of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act.

The international hotel operator accuses Variant of clumping together 53 defendants and offering up “threadbare recitals using formulaic language of alleged infringement” in an effort to blitz the suit into court the day before the America Invents Act took effect, according to...
