Publisher Plans To File Ch. 11 To Refinance $1B In Debt

Law360, New York (December 2, 2011, 10:56 PM EST) -- Lee Enterprises Inc., the publisher of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and dozens of other daily newspapers across the country, is planning a prepackaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing as part of a plan to refinance about $1 billion in debt, the company announced Friday.

The announcement comes after the media company, which had already struck deals earlier this year to refinance the bulk of its debt, reached an agreement with creditors to extend the maturity of $138 million in debt until December 2015.
