9th Circ. Gives Genocide Insurance Case 2nd Look

Law360, New York (December 14, 2011, 10:57 PM EST) -- Eleven judges from the Ninth Circuit on Wednesday heard oral arguments in an en banc review of a class action dispute over a California law governing time limits for claims under life insurance policies issued to victims of the Armenian Genocide.

The heart of the dispute lies in Section 354.4 of California's Code of Civil Procedure, which was amended in 2000 to provide California courts jurisdiction over certain classes of claims from insurance policies held by those who lived in the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923...
