JC Penney Targeted Over Deceptive Savings Programs

Law360, New York (December 12, 2011, 7:26 PM EST) -- A Florida resident launched a putative class action Friday accusing J.C. Penney Co. Inc. and a marketing services company of conspiring to deceptively enroll and bill consumers for membership savings programs without obtaining their informed consent.

Since 1994, marketing services company Stonebridge Benefit Services Inc. has, through the direct cooperation of merchant partners such as J.C. Penney, enrolled tens of thousands of consumers in its membership savings programs without their authorization, plaintiff Jill Edgley alleges.
