'60s Icons The Kingsmen Sued Over 'Louie Louie' Royalties

Law360, New York (December 12, 2011, 5:59 PM EST) -- The successor to Jerden Records Inc. on Thursday sued the Kingsmen, claiming the band members breached a contract with the record label and owe royalties from the 1963 hit recording of "Louie Louie."

In a complaint filed in the California Superior Court in Los Angeles, Gusto Records Inc. says the Kingsmen owe more than $200,000 in royalties under a 1993 contract that gave the Kingsmen the rights to various recordings in exchange for specified percentages of the net income from the songs.
