Judge Leans Toward Bloomberg Win In Swatch IP Suit

Law360, New York (December 12, 2011, 6:21 PM EST) -- A New York federal judge indicated Monday that he would likely rule that Bloomberg LP did not break copyright law when it published a recording of a conference call between Swatch Group Ltd. executives and analysts.

U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein said at a hearing that Bloomberg was protected by the fair use doctrine when it gave its subscribers access to a recording and transcripts of the Feb. 8 call, a back-and-forth between the Swiss watchmaker's executives and dozens of analysts.
