FBI Denies FOIA Request For Carrier IQ Docs

Law360, New York (December 13, 2011, 9:18 PM EST) -- The FBI last week rejected a Freedom of Information Act bid for records tied to Carrier IQ Inc. because of a FOIA exemption of documents "compiled for law enforcement," amid claims the software developer secretly collected smartphone users' data.

In a Dec. 7 letter to MuckRock news, the FBI rejected the FOIA request on the grounds that it was tied to records compiled for law enforcement and could also “reasonably be expected to interfere with the enforcement proceedings.”
