NRC Greenlights New Reactor Design For Use In US Plants

Law360, New York (December 22, 2011, 9:23 PM EST) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Thursday approved a new reactor design from Westinghouse Electric Co. LLC, paving the way for utilities in Georgia and South Carolina to move forward with nuclear plant construction.

NRC Chairman Gregory B. Jaczko said the NRC had thoroughly checked that the Westinghouse AP1000 design was up to security standards.
