Amaranth Sued For Energy Futures Price Manipulation

Law360, New York (July 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A proposed class action filed against Amaranth Advisors LLC has alleged that the collapsed hedge fund artificially manipulated the price of natural gas futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange, in violation of the Commodity Exchange Act.

The plaintiff, Roberto E. Calle Gracey, filed his complaint Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He hopes to represent a class of people who traded in natural gas futures during the time of Amaranth’s alleged control of the market, specifically from Feb....
