Judge Cuts Out Design Claim Over Tiffany Diamond

Law360 (July 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A district judge has ruled that jewelry experts who choose the angles and alignment of a stone's cut are not entitled to patent ownership in a family spat over a diamond design exclusively licensed by Tiffany & Co.

Judge Richard J. Holwell of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled last week that Yoram Finkelstein is not entitled to ownership interest in patents held by his brother-in-law Joseph Mardkha and his two companies, Diamond Innovations LLC and ColorMasters Inc.
