Hyundai Deceived Customers About Elantra's MPG: Suit

Law360, New York (January 9, 2012, 7:43 PM EST) -- A putative nationwide class action launched Friday in California state court accuses Hyundai Motor America of falsely advertising that its Elantra would achieve 40 miles per gallon during normal highway driving.

According to the suit, Hyundai actively deceived consumers into buying the Elantra with an aggressive marketing campaign boasting the car's fuel efficiency — even though its 40-MPG figure stemmed from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tests that were far from replicating normal driving conditions.
