Whirlpool Buyers Sue Over Mislabeled Washing Machines

Law360, New York (January 9, 2012, 3:57 PM EST) -- Residents of New Jersey and California launched a class action Thursday against Whirlpool Corp. over some models of Maytag Centennial washing machines that were marketed as Energy Star-qualified but allegedly caused customers' energy bills to spike.

The New Jersey suit, which also names retailers Lowe's Companies Inc. and Sears Holdings Corp., claims advertisements promised lower energy bills for consumers who bought the more expensive, allegedly energy-efficient machines.
