Following Outcry, Feds Reopen Visa Request Period

Law360 (July 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The federal government has rescinded its block on permanent visa applications and announced it will accept them for the next month, taking steps to undo a “gaff" that drew heavy fire from attorneys representing thousands of immigrants.

The Department of State and Citizenship and Immigration Services on Tuesday said it would begin accepting green card requests immediately, until Aug. 17. Additionally, it said that applications submitted after July 31 would not be subject to the 66% fee hikes scheduled to go into effect at that time....
