Walgreen, Par Schemed To Overcharge For Generics: Suit

Law360, New York (January 11, 2012, 8:56 PM EST) -- A putative class of insurance companies, self-insured employers and union health and welfare funds launched a suit Wednesday in Illinois federal court accusing Walgreen Co. and Par Pharmaceutical Cos. Inc. of scheming to overcharge them for generic versions of Zantac and Prozac.

Led by the United Food and Commercial Workers Unions and Employers Midwest Health Benefits Fund, the putative class alleges that Walgreen and Par acquired tens of millions of dollars in excess profits by overcharging third-party payers in at least two widespread schemes.
