9th Circ. Calls For New Trial On Illegal Exports To China

Law360, New York (January 17, 2012, 5:55 PM EST) -- The Ninth Circuit on Tuesday ordered a new trial for a Macau resident convicted of bringing military communications devices from the U.S. into China in violation of U.S. export control laws, saying he should be able to present evidence of duress.

Following a jury trial, Chi Tong Kuok was convicted on four counts of conspiracy and attempt to export defense articles without a license, money laundering, and conspiracy and attempt to smuggle goods from the U.S.
