Marubeni Ends Nigerian Bribery Scheme Charges For $55M

Law360, New York (January 17, 2012, 5:08 PM EST) -- Marubeni Corp. on Tuesday reached a $54.6 million settlement of criminal charges under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act over its participation in a decadelong scheme to bribe Nigerian government officials to win engineering, procurement and construction contracts in the country.

The penalty brings the total in fines and forfeiture orders obtained in connection with the scheme to $1.7 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division.
