Gagosian Hit With $14M Suit Over Lichtenstein Painting

Law360, New York (January 20, 2012, 2:07 PM EST) -- Art dealer Larry Gagosian was hit Wednesday with a $14.5 million suit in New York by an elderly art collector who claims Gagosian wrongly took a $5 million Roy Lichtenstein painting she owned and sold it for far less than its market value.

Jan Cowles, 93, filed a complaint in New York County Supreme Court claiming Gagosian and his gallery, Gagosian Gallery Inc., took and sold her 1964 Lichtenstein pop art piece, "Girl in Mirror," for $2 million in 2008 in a “dishonest fashion.”
