Judge Shuts Down Cellini's Bid For New Bribery Trial

Law360, Chicago (January 24, 2012, 9:16 PM EST) -- Real estate investor and political insider William Cellini lost his bid at a second trial on bribery and extortion charges Tuesday, with an Illinois federal judge rejecting the defendant's arguments that his convictions must be tossed because of alleged juror bias.

With the defendant present in the courtroom, U.S. District Judge James B. Zagel denied Cellini's emergency motion for a new trial, saying he would not have found cause to excuse juror Candy Chiles' from serving even if her allegedly false statements about her criminal past...
